“Huge demonstrations require an incredible amount of work and it’s important that we not be dedicated only to pageantry, or only to the moments when the left is most visible,” Matt Whitley, an organizer with the anarchist umbrella group, Metropolitan Anarchist Coordinating Committee (MACC), told me. “Hosting a general assembly may not have the same sense of spectacle as a massive day of action, but as Occupy showed, it’s these simple ideas about radically resculpting our daily lives that ultimately catch fire.”
