PORTLAND, Ore. — White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Friday that President Trump has directed his team to review potential cuts to federal aid for Portland.
“We will not fund states that allow anarchy,” Leavitt said during a White House media briefing.
Leavitt’s comments followed what she described as a “radical left reign of terror in Portland,” referencing ongoing protests outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in the city’s South Waterfront neighborhood.
“This is not peaceful protesting,” Leavitt said. “This is left-wing anarchy that has been destroying this great American city for years, leaving police officers battered, citizens terrorized, and business properties damaged.”
Her remarks centered on the arrest of conservative influencer Nick Sortor outside Portland’s ICE facility Thursday night. Portland police arrested Sortor for disorderly conduct, along with two others, after police said officers saw multiple fights break out. Sortor was released from jail Friday morning.
